AnyDesk is a capable, widely used remote desktop. People go looking for an alternative for three recurring reasons: “not connected to server” errors, free-tier session limits and nag screens, and hard region blocks. DoorDast is a free, end-to-end encrypted alternative built around a simpler promise — share a code, get connected, stay private.

Where DoorDast is the better pick
- Privacy you don’t have to take on faith. DoorDast sessions are end-to-end encrypted with keys that exist only on the two devices — our servers physically cannot watch. The full design is public on our security page.
- Genuinely free personal use. No session time-outs, no “you seem to be a professional” lockouts, no paid tiers hiding the useful features.
- Helping someone who has nothing installed. Your guest opens a link in a browser and types a code — done. AnyDesk requires its app on both ends.
- Regions AnyDesk blocks. AnyDesk (like TeamViewer) enforces sanctions blocks in countries such as Iran. DoorDast works there, and its end-to-end encryption means your sessions are private even from us.
Where AnyDesk is the better pick
- You need macOS, Linux or mobile control. AnyDesk’s native apps cover far more platforms. DoorDast’s app is Windows-only today (browsers can view from any OS).
- Enterprise management. Custom clients, address books, mass deployment, compliance paperwork — AnyDesk’s paid tiers are built for IT fleets; DoorDast isn’t (yet).
- Recording and audit requirements. If your org must record sessions centrally, DoorDast’s no-keys design is intentionally incompatible with that.
Switching takes about a minute
There is nothing to migrate: install DoorDast on the PC you want to reach, note its share code, and connect from your other machine. If you’re troubleshooting AnyDesk right now, our guide to the “not connected to server” error covers the usual fixes — and the fallback plan.
